Unions Rally for Saving Pensions at Ohio Statehouse

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A second day of rallying and speeches on the Ohio Statehouse grounds by union members from across the Midwest, on Friday.

The union workers are fighting to save their pensions, administered through the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, many of which are on the brink of insolvency.

Workers from the United Mine Workers, United Auto Workers and others visited the Statehouse to prove to federal lawmakers during a hearing on saving the retirement accounts.

Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown hosted the meeting of the Joint Select Committee on Solvency of Multiemployer Pension Plans.

Senator Portman says the solution may involve a lot of taxpayer money. Portman and Brown both say a solution needs to be found by the end of the year.
